Sports Physiotherapy in Tuggeranong

Whether you're a weekend sports player, a junior athlete, or training at a competitive level, sports injuries need assessment and management that accounts for the physical demands of your specific sport. At Calwell Physiotherapy Clinic, we work with athletes across Tuggeranong and the wider Canberra region to assess injuries, guide rehabilitation, and support a structured return to training and competition.

Conditions we commonly manage include:

  • Ligament sprains (ankle, knee, including ACL and MCL injuries)
  • Muscle strains and tears (hamstring, calf, quadriceps, groin)
  • Tendinopathies (patellar, Achilles, rotator cuff)
  • Overuse and load-related injuries from running, field, and court sports
  • Concussion and graduated return-to-sport management
  • Shoulder instability and impingement in throwing and racquet sports
  • Stress fractures and bone stress injuries

Our approach

Assessment starts with understanding your sport, training load, and competition schedule, not just the injury itself. From there, we build a rehabilitation plan that progresses through pain and swelling management, restoring movement and strength, and finally sport-specific loading and return-to-play testing. Where appropriate, we use objective outcome measures — such as strength and hop testing — to help guide decisions about return to sport, rather than relying on time frames alone.

We also work with local sporting clubs and can provide pitch-side or venue-based physiotherapy coverage for teams and events on request.

What to expect at your first appointment

Your initial consultation includes a detailed history of the injury, a physical assessment, and a discussion of your goals — whether that's getting back to your Saturday club game or preparing for a specific competition. You'll leave with a clear plan for the sessions ahead and, where relevant, a home exercise program.
