Sports Injury Management in Tuggeranong

When a sports injury happens, what you do in the first days matters. Getting an accurate assessment early helps avoid guesswork about whether to rest, load, or seek further imaging — and gives you a clear plan instead of managing an injury on your own.

At Calwell Physiotherapy Clinic, we assess new and recent sports injuries and provide a structured management plan from the first appointment, covering everything from acute care through to a longer-term rehabilitation pathway if needed.

We commonly manage:

  • Acute ankle, knee, and shoulder sprains
  • Muscle strains (hamstring, calf, quadriceps)
  • Acute low back pain related to sport or training
  • Suspected fractures or joint injuries requiring onward referral for imaging
  • Contusions and soft tissue injuries
  • Deciding when further investigation (X-ray, ultrasound, MRI) is warranted, and coordinating referral with your GP where needed

What happens at your first visit

We take a history of how the injury occurred, assess the affected area, and give you a working diagnosis along with early management advice — such as load management, protective strategies, and pain relief options. If your injury needs further investigation or specialist input, we'll coordinate a referral. If not, we'll set out the next stages of your rehabilitation.

Early management matters

Injuries managed appropriately in the first 1–2 weeks tend to have a clearer rehabilitation pathway. If you're unsure whether an injury needs professional assessment, a general guide: if you can't weight-bear, have significant swelling, or symptoms aren't easing within a few days, it's worth getting it checked.
